Scott V. Nicol, Ed.D., is a seasoned educational leader with over 25 years of experience in public school systems, specializing in governance, operational strategy, and academic performance improvement. He most recently served as superintendent of Ellington Public Schools in Connecticut, where he led a district of more than 2,600 students across five schools. During his tenure (2015–2026), Dr. Nicol oversaw large-scale district operations, including budget management exceeding $48 million and long-term infrastructure planning. He played a key role in advancing major capital projects, including the $74 million Windermere Elementary School renovation, which received strong community support. His leadership focused on balancing financial discipline with academic performance. Under his direction, the district maintained top-tier return-on-investment rankings in Connecticut, achieving strong student outcomes while operating with below-average per-pupil spending. Dr. Nicol also prioritized innovation and community engagement. He founded EDUinnovate, an educational foundation that secured approximately $1 million in funding to support teacher-led initiatives and enhance classroom experiences. In addition, he developed the “Seeds of Civility” initiative, a framework promoting respectful communication and civic engagement across the school community, earning statewide recognition. Prior to his role in Ellington, Dr. Nicol served as Executive Director of Performance Management for Hartford Public Schools, where he supported system-wide improvement efforts across a large, diverse district. His work included implementing evaluation systems, leading professional development, and aligning instructional practices with measurable outcomes. Earlier in his career, he served as a principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher, gaining experience across multiple levels of educational leadership. Dr. Nicol holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Policy Analysis from the University of Connecticut, a Master’s degree in Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Providence College.
